“TK” Unlock and enhance your Organization’s true potential, drive it to excellence and final goal...
"I Shall reconsider human Knowledge by starting from the fact that we can know more than we can tell'
-Michal Polani
Michael Polanyi is an unforgettable figure in the discussion of tacit
knowledge. He introduced the term "tacit knowledge" and developed its
uniqueness. It is a one of Knowledge management.
ü In recent times, Tacit knowledge has gained prominence over explicit knowledge particularly in the field of knowledge management(Pang, 2023).
Professor Wu Yishan further elaborated the connotation of the three types of tacit knowledge. Robiero and Collins also classified tacit knowledge in to three (Pang, 2023).
· Stronger
tacit knowledge
· Medium
tacit knowledge
· Weak
tacit knowledge
However, when viewed from an organizational perspective, this tacit knowledge is more special because of its great contribution to the organization. While explicit knowledge can be acquired by anyone, tacit knowledge is not. Ability to solve organizational problems and make quick and accurate decisions. Also, because the organizational structure is well understood, even in an emergency, the possessor of tacit knowledge has a broad ability to adapt to it quickly. That is their abundant experience (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023).
Let’s
go to a simple example for Catch, what is Tacit knowledge:
·Weak tacit knowledge
In this particular example, if you asked a coach how to swim, He might outline the various methods or techniques you could use. sharing knowledge is easy. Also easy to make explicit. Easy to convert Explicit knowledge.
· ·Medium or somatic tacit knowledge
This type of tacit knowledge basically takes time to develop. The rate of development depends on innate ability, knowledge, skills, adaptability. Artistically, this growth rate varies from individual to individual.
· Stronger tacit knowledge
This type of tacit
knowledge equivalent to Environmental tacit knowledge and needs to be fully
scanned and deeply analyzed for the surrounding innovation environment. This
particular type knowledge cannot be described in words. This type of tacit
knowledge is based on a person’s keen intelligence, long-term training,
environmental conditioning, ability to apply long term acquired knowledge,
mental level and strength of mind.
*How make a positive impact for the organization
from TACIT KNOWLEDGE?
Tacit knowledge importance because it is a competitive
advantage as well as critical to day-to-day life management. It depends on
expertise (Mohajan, 2017).
One would
argue that Google, You tube, AI can do everything. Technology is not everything
(Iyer, 2020).
Learn how to swim any way you can. But then can you swim
very fast and in different ways like Michael Phelps. He set world records and
won gold medals through his long period training and experience.
Above example convert to the organization. Consider why years of experience are especially important when hiring a new employee. Because it opens up new avenues of understanding. It cannot be obtained from educational qualification. Explitis knowledge is essential, but tacit knowledge is more powerful. Tacit knowledge is the right path best understood through mistakes. It indirectly contributes to reducing the cost of the organization. Therefore, tacit knowledge will provide work value to an organization.
Tacit knowledge plays an indispensable role in the success and growth of any organization. Complements explicit knowledge by this particular knowledge. By embracing the power of tacit knowledge, you will unlock the true potential of your organization. (Oragui, 2023)
