Let's create a Green HR-friendly workforce in the face of Ecological Globalization.
Globalization:
defined in the online course Global Business as the
increased flow of goods, services, capital, people, and ideas across
international boundaries. Unfortunately, it’s also led to serious negative
impacts on the environment. (Stobierski. T, 2021)
Ecological Globalization:
Ecological globalization refers to the idea that the world
needs to be considered one interconnected ecosystem.
How to effect Ecological globalization
Air pollution is bad for business. About 1.2 billion working
days are lost globally each year due to air pollution. The adverse effects of
air pollution affect every company regardless of sector or size.
In 2019, air pollution cost the Indian economy $95 billion
in lost productivity for companies.
In 2014, Panasonic became the first international company to
compensate foreign workers for hardships caused by air quality in China. (CLEAN AIR FOUND, 2023).
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and existing
issues.
A clean and healthy environment is required to achieve the
Sustainable Development Goals.
A human-induced triple planetary crisis of climate change,
nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste are pushing nature to the
breaking point.
Air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to public
health globally and accounts for an estimated 7 million premature deaths every
year.
The most dangerous of these particles, which can include
anything from soot, soil dust, to sulfates, are fine particles 2.5 microns or
less in diameter —shortened as PM2.5. 2022 news feed, Due to the seasonal
phenomena occurs at the Indian sub-continent during North East Monsoon period
each year PM level has been increased yearly at that period. In 2019, 99% of
the world population was living in places where the WHO’s strictest 2021 air
quality guideline levels were not met (Central Environment Authority, 2022).
The fine particles that pollute the air mostly come from
human activities such as burning fossil fuels to generate electricity,
transportation, burning waste, agriculture - a major source of methane and
ammonia - and the chemical and mining industries.
United Nation Environment Program (UNEP)'s Action on Air
Quality report provides a review of policy actions taken by governments around
the world to improve air quality. Controlled by incentives, standards,
regulation, etc.(UNO environment program, 2022).
Come to Green HR and Make sure Sustainable Development
With the launch of the International Sustainability
Standards Board (ISSB) at COP26 last year, it shows that sustainability data is
still fundamental to company performance.
Clean air is a secret weapon for solving many problems at
once, including the climate crisis.
The Alliance for Clean Air is the first global private
sector initiative to tackle air pollution, including companies such as Google,
Siemens, Ikea and Maersk.
How does your business deal with air pollution?
• Identify sources of air pollutants
• Development of mitigation measures
• Assess the business benefits of taking action
As introduced by the COP 27 Committee, it should be done
globally within the institutional framework.
• Identification of sources of air pollutants
• Assessing the business benefits of reducing air pollution.
• Identify stakeholders to engage in your journey
• Development of mitigation measures (CLEAN AIR FOUND, 2022).
Globalization of human capital
The greatest asset any company has is the workforce it
acquires and retains.
The impact of globalization on human resource development
and management is significant when a business expands its operations to other
countries.(Nattter, 2020)
Implementing Environmental Management System
The International Organization for Standardization ISO
14001:2015 (EMS) sets out the requirements for an environmental management
system that an organization can use to improve its environmental performance.
ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization that seeks to
systematically manage its environmental responsibilities by contributing to the
environmental pillar of sustainability. Achieving such will further increase
the value of the organization. In this way, organizations are promoted as an
environmentally friendly workplace. Creating such a workplace can fend off
global competition, increase employee satisfaction and attract new employees. The
real secret of multinational corporations that's it.(ISO Annual meeting, 2023).
